Top 5 Favorite Things of February

I know it's been a really really long time.  As promised I will be doing my top 5 favorite things of February.  I've had a pretty boring month, but hopefully I can get back on the blog track and keep myself occupied.  So here is my top 5 of Feb!

1. Teen Mom 2
I am absolutely obsessed with trashy reality shows and unlike its big sister Teen Mom, Teen Mom 2 is uber trashy.  First off one of them whines more about a GED than Amber on the first season, the other has the craziest parent I've ever seen in my life, the most stable out of all of them has a fiance who needs subtitles just to be understood. Like seriously this show is ridiculous.  I love Jenelle and her crazy mom, Barbara.  I do the best impression of her!  This show is a hot tranny mess and I am utterly obsessed with it!

2. The Oscars
I love the Oscars.  Always have. Always will.  My love of movies come from my dad's side of the family.  I even have an Oscars fashion book that has creases in it because I've looked at it so much.  As always I try to see all Oscar nominated movies, and nominated performances in order to cast a fair and honest vote (not that it matters).  This year I've been lagging a little, but I hope to see the last two best picture nominees by the end of the week.  I also hope that I get to watch the Oscars, even though I'll be away for the night : (.  Here's my rundown of all the movies:

Black Swan
This was a great movie.  A little confusing at times and Portman gave a great performance.  For my full review see my previous post.

The Fighter
If the only award this wins is Best Supporting Actor: Christian Bale, that'll be fine with me.  I'm always one for a good sports movie and while Wahlberg fairly portrays "Irish" Mickey Ward, it's Bale who steals the show.  I definitely think this movie deserves something, however it won't win Best Picture.

Inception
Why is this nominated again? Yes, its a good movie.  Christopher Nolan did a fantastic job with it, but the first 45 mins- hour of the movie absolutely sucks.  It's only after they get into Cillian Murphy's dream that its awesome.  Enjoy your visual effects statue.

The Kids Are All Right
I enjoyed this movie, I thought it was a great story line and Annette Benning and Julianne Moore played great lesbians.  This is actually why I hate the new Best Picture nominee format because good movies like this get nominated and get a chance.  Boo academy, boo.

127 Hours
Given I have an intense fear of small spaces, this movie did wonders for my panic attacks, but it was AWESOME. I know this probably isn't going to win, but I wouldn't mind seeing it win.  James Franco does an amazing job.  Though I did miss two important parts because I had my eyes shut really tight.  I missed him falling down the crevice and I couldn't watch him cutting off his arm.  Maybe James Franco can squeeze a Best Actor out of it.  If he does I'm sure stoners everywhere will rejoice.

The Social Network
Being a part of the Facebook generation, I thought this was great movie.  First off I had no idea Mark Zuckerberg was such a dick, second I didn't know there was a giant lawsuit over "the book".  This could honestly be the sleeper of the Oscars like Crash was back in 2006.  Jesse Eisenberg also does a great job at portraying the creator of Facebook or as I like to call him "how can I make this $16 billion dollar Jew my husband".

Toy Story 3
*Sigh* Another reason why I hate the new nomination format.  Don't get me wrong I absolutely loved this movie.  I cried the last 15 minutes of it, but really a nomination? Come on academy.  Someone needs to lay off the sauce over there when you guys are having your nomination meetings.

Winter's Bone
I started to watch this movie, but didn't get more than 10 minutes in because it had a starving horse and I don't do movies with horses.  It looks really good and maybe I'll Netflix it and just fast forward.  I don't think this one is a contender though.

True Grit & The King's Speech
I have not seen either of these and I am DYING to see them.  Especially The King's Speech, if it's anything I love more than WWII history it's the British Monarchy.

I'll definitely be posting a post-Oscars wrap up.  I could go into more detail and review the actors/directors, but we'll stick to the movies for now.  My prediction is the The Social Network will come out of nowhere and win it all.  If not The King's Speech will be going home with the top award.

3. Friday Night Lights
When this show first came on in 2006 I did not want to give it the time of day.  I absolutely loved the movie (okay yeah I'm a sucker for any sports movie) so I didn't want this to ruin the movie for me.  Over the summer I began to watch it instantly on Netflix and 5 minutes into the pilot I was hooked on it.  Every single character makes an emotional connection to the audience, even the minor characters like Matt Saracen's Grandma or Billy Riggins.  I will admit that I have cheered on for the Dillon Panthers both times they went to state and for the East Dillon Lions when they played the now evil West Dillon Panthers in the Thanksgiving game.  I have yet to watch the fifth and final season, but they will start airing it on NBC in April.  I am truly sad to see this show go.

And if it means anything to anyone I'm not the only one who loves this show.  Critics are obsessed with this show and so isn't Chelsea Handler.  It's just very well acted, emotional, and sucks you in for the 42 minutes its on the screen.  If you ever get a chance to watch this show please do because you will absolutely not regret it.  Oh and another fun fact about the show Time Magazine named Season 4's episode "The Son" as the best television show of 2010.  FNL def does not deserve to be cancelled, hopefully it can be saved, but I seriously doubt it.

4. Youtube
Like any young adult I am obsessed with Youtube! I have been ever since I got to college and had access to high speed internet. It's also my top visited site on Google Chrome.  My new favorite video is a Muppet video.  Hey! No judging this video is awesome! Big Bad Carl is totally a believable bunny!! Enjoy, one of my favorite renditions of "Stand by Me".

5. Adele
Ever since Chasing Pavements came out in 2008, I've had a love for the British soul singer.  There's something about really jazzy, bluesy voices that get to me.  I'm also really into British artists, as you can see from my previous favoritism of Cheryl Cole from January.  My favorite song of Adele's is called "Make You Feel My Love".  It's actually a Bob Dylan original from his 1997 album "Time Out of Mind".  There's just something perfect about this song that makes me want to listen to it over and over again.  I think it's her voice and the emotion that she sings the song with.

Adele has recently released her sophomore album entitled "21" (her first album was "19").  The title comes from her age at the time of recording.  Her first single off the album is called "Rolling in the Deep", which just happens to be a favorite of my friend Tracy.  It's a really strong single and if you're into the deeper, raspier voice then Adele is definitely for you.

A Movie Weekend & My Intense Hatred of the Snow

So it's Tuesday, yesterday was a holiday apparently.  Since I am neither in school or have a job I don't really even know what day of the week it is sometimes.  It's snowing or raining either way its disgusting.  I absolutely loathe the snow.  My hatred for it did not come about until I got to college and I had to walk to class or to do anything in this city.  We also didn't have a lot of snow days in my town.  If it was snowing we usually still went to school because it would turn to rain by the end of the day.  Now there's like 8 inches of snow outside, ice everywhere, and no one clears their sidewalks off.  Other than that it's SUPER fantastic outside.  Gross, I'm so glad I have nothing to do today and I can just stay in and look at all the poor people sliding down the hill in their cars.

This past weekend my two best friends from college came to visit me.  We had a lot of fun and I always hate when they leave me :(.  One of our favorite things to do collectively as a trio is the movies.  I am from a cinema loving family and thanks to my Aunt I am loaded with movie tickets that she gave me for Christmas.  Our first movie that we all saw together was Black Swan.  I have been excited to see this movie, not only for the ballet or Natalie Portman, but for the sheer creepiness just the trailer possessed.  The creepy whispers, red eyes, and crazy mother all added to my need to see this movie.  I will admit that I was mildly confused from time to time, and that I jumped when a bloody Winona Ryder showed up out of nowhere.  Definitely a great movie and I'm happy Natalie won the Golden Globe.  I see an Oscar win in her near future!

I also saw two other movies yesterday.  I saw Tangled (finally) and The Green Hornet 3D.  I have legit wanted to see Tangled since I first heard about it last February!  I finally got the opportunity to see it and it definitely did not disappoint.  The only thing that threw me off was the singing.  I thought it was a normal cgi movie, but then again it was a Disney production.  Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore who provided the voices for Rapunzel and the male lead Flynn Ryder were fantastic together.  After seeing Tangled I was even more excited to see the next movie.

I am absolutely in love with Seth Rogen, superheros, and anything old that's new again.  When I was younger I had a Green Hornet fork, well actually I believe it was a spork.  I'm a really huge dork and have a secret love for comic books (guess its not a secret now) or anything superhero related.  When I first saw the trailer for this film I immediately could not wait to see it.  My hopes of seeing it within the coming weeks was dashed against the rocks when I found out that it didn't come out until January 2011 (I saw the trailer in August).  The fact that it was in 3D which I wasn't really into at first kind of turned me off a little bit.  I must say that it was AMAZING in 3D! It would've been just as good in 2D, but I enjoyed having Seth Rogen that close to me! Yes, he did kind of take Britt Reid's character and update him for today's world (and maybe made him a tad bit too silly), but it was a needed update.  Overall go see Green Hornet, even if you hate 3D.

For some reason I'm really into reality shows right now.  I'm currently on Bad Girls Club, The Bachelor, and I'm about to start a new one called Genuine Ken.  I will definitely let you know how that one turns out.  Time to be done with this blog post.  Laterz!

My Top 5 New Favorite Things

Yes, I know its been a few days.  To put it bluntly I have no idea what to write on this thing.  I guess since it's my blog I can write anything that's of interest to me.  I've decided to let everyone get to know me by posting my top five favorite things.  I'll try and make it a monthly thing, it'll be fun.  I promise!

Top 5 Favorite Things for the Month of January
1. Barnes & Nobles Nook Color
My parents bought me a Nook for Christmas.  I was little skeptical at first because I don't read as much as they think I do.  Anyways my Nook is actually pretty cool.  It's essentially an iPad without Apps. Which I actually just googled and apparently you can get apps.  Guess I know what I'll be doing later! My dad got the inspiration for my gift after he visited my Aunt & Uncle in California over the summer.  Two days after starting my Nook up I purchased my first book, "The Complete Works of Jane Austen" for only $0.99! Then I went on a bargain buying book frenzy and purchased "Little Women" (my favorite book ever!), "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", and "Fearless" (yes its about learning to live your life without fear).

So far I've been enjoying my Nook.  I can also connect to wifi anywhere and browse the web.  I am going to admit that I was not totally psyched about it when I first opened it up, but I've absolutely fallen in love with it! Oh and another thing about it, it's 10x better than the Kindle.  Why? Because its in color! Who doesn't like to look at things in color? Also, it doesn't look that outdated, definitely worth the extra money.

2. Pretty Little Liars
Anyone who really knows me knows that I absolutely LOVE ABC Family shows.  I am addicted to all of them! It started back in high school when my family and I used to watch Kyle XY.  When I was in college I started to watch The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Make it or Break it, and Greek.  All three of which I still watch and love to talk about to anyone who will listen to me.  This summer I got into their newest show Pretty Little Liars.  This is the most amazing show ever! I cannot get over how into this show I am, and I also got my really close friends into it too!

I don't think that Allie is dead, and I figured out that "A" was two different people way before the girls did.  I also am in love with Ezra Fitz.  He's the hot teacher that one of the 16 year olds happens to be dating.  To be fair he didn't know she was 16 or a student until she sat down in his English class the first day of school.  Now I sound like an episode of "To Catch a Predator", anyways Mr. Fitz is a hottie.  This is one of the best shows on t.v. this season (and one of the only ones left since all my other new favorites got cancelled or didn't come back).  I've also just learned today that PLL was picked up for a second season. Yay, happy dance time!!!

3. Cheryl Cole
I will admit that the Brit from Newcastle who used to be in a girl band is my girl crush.  My bff Jamie thinks my obsession is going to turn into Single White Female, while on the other hand my roommate and Big Sis Sarah thinks its AWESOME! I think that Cheryl is a very admirable person.  I really like her style and her makeup.  She also has this new purple toned hair that I am absolutely in love with! All of her songs are really catchy and fun to dance too.  She's also a judge on the X Factor which is an amazing show and I can't wait till it comes to the USA.  I could go on and on all day about how much I love Cheryl, but for everyones sake I'm not going too.
P.S. Her second album Messy Little Raindrops is amazing!

4. Headbands
I am mildly obsessed with Gossip Girl after my cousin Molly suggested I get into it last Christmas.  All summer I watched every single episode of the first three seasons.  I finished one week after the season four premiere.  Anyone who watches the show regularly knows that Blair Waldorf loves her headbands, and I in turn love Blair.  I currently have about 10 headbands, most of which came from Forever 21.  I have this one thats white and has netting on it.  It's very Madonna-esque circa 1983.  I can't wait to wear it!  They are my new favorite accessory.  I went through an earring phase for a little bit, but headbands are def my new obsession.

5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
My roommate in college who is still my roommate today is named Sarah.  During our first month of living together I introduced her to my favorite show on t.v. CBS's How I Met Your Mother. She instantly fell in love with Jason Segal's character, the very loveable and funny Marshall Erickson.  After she confessed her love for him and announced her in-mind wedding too him I began to call her Sarah Marshall.  After the movie came out we dragged our other two friends with us on $5 Tuesdays at Showcase (best deal ever!).  While they didn't instantly fall in love with the movie like we did, it quickly became one of mine and Sarah's favorite.

While shopping on Black Friday with my Mother, which is always an experience within itself, I spied this movie on the shelves.  It was only $9.99 and since I'm always a sucker for a movie 10 bucks and under I just had to buy it.  When I got back to my apartment later that night, I informed Sarah of my purchase and we proceeded to down a case of Saranac beer while cracking up to this hilarious movie.  As of today (I watched it again this morning and when I went to bed last night) I have already started to wear my copy out.  I have a feeling this is my new Knocked Up (which is my favorite movie and partially worn out).  For those of you who have not seen it I suggest you Redbox, Netflix, or Blockbuster Online it and stat!

Those are my top 5 favorites for January.  I have a lot more, but most of them or songs or Youtube videos.  I'll be sure to post them in the coming days.  Thats it for now.  Its taken me forever to write this one single post.  Until next time my loves!

This is Going to be Fun...

I've never written a blog before.  I've never really had an interest in it, but since I'm unemployed and have nothing to do I might as well.  My current status in life is single, holds a bachelor's degree, and is remarkably unemployable.  In layman's term I have a hot mess of a life.  It could be a lot worse, I know.  I'm what they call in life a complainer.  Some people may also call that a brat.  I have been called a lot worse, so I'm going to take brat over the variety of other names I've been called.

So what am I going to write about on this thing? Well in college I held a column for over a year in our school paper entitled "Celebrity Gossip Round Up".  It was a little cheesy of a title, but I never ceased to amuse my editors, friends, family, and all of about 5 readers we had for our dog and pony show of a paper.  I can also write about sports, my interesting take on current events, entertainment, and the endless amounts of trouble and turmoil that I always seem to find myself in.

I can already tell that this is going to be SUPER fun, so lets start 2011 of right shall we? I officially welcome you to my blog, "Confessions of an Unemployed College Graduate...".
